چونک تعویق آمد اندر عرض و طول
شاه شد زان گنج دل سیر و ملول

دشتها را گز گز آن شه چاه کند
رقعه را از خشم پیش او فکند

گفت گیر این رقعه کش آثار نیست
تو بدین اولیتری کت کار نیست

نیست این کار کسی کش هست کار
که بسوزد گل بگردد گرد خار

نادر افتد اهل این ماخولیا
منتظر که روید از آهن گیا

سخت جانی باید این فن را چو تو
تو که داری جان سخت این را بجو

گر نیابی نبودت هرگز ملال
ور بیابی آن به تو کردم حلال

عقل راه ناامیدی کی رود
عشق باشد کان طرف بر سر دود

لاابالی عشق باشد نی خرد
عقل آن جوید کز آن سودی برد

ترک تاز و تن گداز و بی حیا
در بلا چون سنگ زیر آسیا

سخت رویی که ندارد هیچ پشت
بهره جویی را درون خویش کشت

پاک می بازد نباشد مزدجو
آنچنان که پاک می گیرد ز هو

می دهد حق هستیش بی علتی
می سپارد باز بی علت فتی

که فتوت دادن بی علتست
پاک بازی خارج هر ملتست

زانک ملت فضل جوید یا خلاص
پاک بازانند قربانان خاص

نی خدا را امتحانی می کنند
نی در سود و زیانی می زنند

English translation

When delay came in breadth and length, the King became sick at heart and weary of that treasure. The King dug wells yard by yard across the plains; in anger, he threw the map down before him. He said, 'Take this map, for it yields no results; you are more suited to this, since you have no work. This is not the work of someone who has a job (responsibilities), that he should burn the rose and wander around the thorn. Rarely is there anyone prone to this melancholy (delusion), waiting for grass to grow from iron! A tough soul (stubbornness) is needed for this craft, like you; you, who have a tough soul, seek this out! If you don't find it, you will never be weary; and if you find it, I have made it lawful to you.' When does the intellect walk the path of hopelessness? It is Love that runs headlong in that direction! Love is reckless, not reason; the intellect seeks that from which it can derive a profit. (Love is) a marauder, body-consuming, and shameless, in affliction, like the nether millstone. It is hard-faced (steadfast) and has no backing; it has killed the seeking of profit within itself. It stakes everything purely and does not seek a wage, just as it receives purely from God. God gives him his existence without a cause; the generous youth surrenders it back without a cause. For generosity is giving without a cause; purely staking all is outside every religion (creed). Because religion seeks grace or salvation, (but) the pure gamblers are the special sacrifices. They do not put God to the test, nor do they knock at the door of profit and loss.
