ای سگ طاعن تو عو عو می‌کنی
طعن قرآن را برون‌شو می‌کنی

این نه آن شیرست کز وی جان بری
یا ز پنجهٔ قهر او ایمان بری

تا قیامت می‌زند قرآن ندی
ای گروهی جهل را گشته فدی

که مرا افسانه می‌پنداشتید
تخم طعن و کافری می‌کاشتید

خود بدیدیت آنک طعنه می‌زدیت
که شما فانی و افسانه بدیت

من کلام حقم و قایم به ذات
قوت جان جان و یاقوت زکات

نور خورشیدم فتاده بر شما
لیک از خورشید ناگشته جدا

نک منم ینبوع آن آب حیات
تا رهانم عاشقان را از ممات

گر چنان گند آزتان ننگیختی
جرعه‌ای بر گورتان حق ریختی

نه بگیرم گفت و پند آن حکیم
دل نگردانم بهر طعنی سقیم

English translation

O taunting dog, you bark and bark, You seek to drive out the Quran with your slander. This is not that lion from whose grip you escape with your life, Or from whose paw of wrath you carry away your faith. Until the Day of Resurrection the Quran sounds its call: O you multitudes who have given yourselves over to ignorance, Who took me for a mere fable And sowed the seeds of slander and unbelief— You yourselves have seen, you who were taunting, That you are the transient ones and the fable. I am the Word of the Truth, self-subsistent in essence, The sustenance of soul upon soul, and the ruby of zakāt. I am the light of the sun fallen upon you, Yet never separated from the sun. Behold, I am the wellspring of the Water of Life, That I may deliver the lovers from death. Had the stench of your greed not stirred such filth, God would have poured a draught upon your graves. I will not heed the words and counsel of that sage, Nor will I turn my heart for every diseased taunt.
