English translation

That person was going around with a candle by day, His heart full of love and passion around the bazaar. A busybody said to him: 'O so-and-so, Behold! What are you searching for in front of every shop? Behold! Why are you going around searching with a lamp? In the midst of the bright day, what is this jest?' He said: 'I am searching on every side for a human being Who is alive by the life of that breath.' He said: 'Is there not a man? This market is full Of people, after all, O free sage!' He said: 'I want a man on the pathway of two roads: On the path of anger and at the time of greed. At the time of anger and the time of lust, where is a man? I run from street to street seeking such manhood. Where in these two states is there a man in the world, So that I may sacrifice my life for him today?' He said: 'You are seeking a rare thing, but Look well, you are heedless of the decree and destiny. You are looking at the branch, ignorant of the root; We are the branch, the root is the decrees of destiny. Destiny leads the revolving wheel of heaven astray; Destiny makes a hundred Mercuries foolish. It makes the world of remedy narrow; It turns iron and granite stone into water. O you who have established the path step by step, You are raw, raw, raw, raw, raw, raw! Since you have seen the turning of the millstone, Come, look also at the water of the brook! You saw the dust rise into the air; Look at the wind in the midst of the dust! You see the pots of thought boiling; Look also at the fire with understanding! God said to Job in His generosity: 'I have given you patience in every single hair of yours. Behold, do not look so much at your own patience; You saw patience, look at the One Who gives patience!' How long will you look at the turning of the waterwheel? Put your head out, and see the swift water as well! You say 'I see,' but There are many good signs for that seeing. Since you saw briefly the turning of the foam, You must wonder, look into the sea! He who saw the foam is speaking secrets; But he who saw the sea is bewildered. He who saw the foam forms intentions; But he who saw the sea makes his heart a sea. He who saw the foam is busy with counting; And he who saw the sea became free of self-will. He who saw the foam is in motion; And he who saw the sea is pure.'
