زان ملوک عجم که در تاریخ
بخردان راست موعظت توبیخ
زان سخنهای ملک کیخسرو
رستم زال و نیرم و جم و زو
آل گشتاسب و نامور لهراسب
وان همه علم و حکمت جاماسب
حال جمشید و حال افریدون
حال ضحاک کافر ملعون
سرگذشت سیاوش مظلوم
پدر بی حفاظ و آن زن شوم
حال اسفندیار و ظلم پدر
حال افراسیاب بسته کمر
رستم گرد و خدعهٔ سهراب
که جهان شد ز فعل هر دو خراب
زان جفاهای بهمن دانا
که چه کرد از خروج با دارا
زان ملوک طوائف عظما
که چه گونه شدند جمله هبا
حال فیروز و اردشیر عظام
اردوان دلیر با بهرام
زان خبرهای آل ساسانی
راندن کام دل به آسانی
زان خصال سکندر رومی
که برفت از جهان به محرومی
زان سیرهای یزدگرد عزیز
که شد از بخت بد همه ناچیز
English translation
Of those kings of Persia who in history, Provide warning and sermon to the wise; Of those words of King Kay Khosrow, Rostam son of Zal, Nariman, Jamshid, and Zou; The dynasty of Goshtasb and the renowned Lohrasb, And all the knowledge and wisdom of Jamasb; The state of Jamshid and the state of Fereydun, The state of Zahhak, the cursed infidel; The story of the oppressed Siavash, His careless father, and that sinister woman; The state of Esfandiyar and the tyranny of his father, The state of Afrasiab who was girded for war; Rostam the champion and the deception of Sohrab, By whose deeds the world was brought to ruin; Of those cruelties of the wise Bahman, And what he did in his rising against Dara; Of those great regional kings of the tribes, And how they all turned to dust; The state of Firuz and Ardashir the great, The brave Ardavan along with Bahram; Of those accounts of the Sasanian dynasty, Who fulfilled their heart's desires so easily; Of those traits of Alexander the Greek, Who departed from this world in deprivation; Of those lives of the beloved Yazdegerd, Whose legacy was all brought to nothing by ill fortune.
