Section 24 - On the Condemnation of the Ignorant and Those Who Counsel Them

Original content

English translation

Although God gave Noah a lifespan Of nine hundred and fifty years on this earth, He called, both openly and in secret, The disbelievers at every time and moment. The people did not listen to Noah's call at all; No one found victory in his words. During that long lifespan of nine hundred years, Only thirty-nine people listened to his speech. And as for the other people, when he opened his mouth, He gave them all over to the deluge. He said 'Leave not [any of them]' to his people entirely, Because they had collectively avoided him. My calling is like the calling of Noah, And my words are the freshness of the soul. Whoever listens, 'Bravo! Bravo!' is best for him; And as for the one who does not listen, what is it to us if he is obstinate? We have shown the path of guidance and salvation, And we concluded with blessings upon the Prophet. Whoever finds these words pleasing Will put all of this advice into practice. No matter how little profit his deeds brought, He held his head high above all men of merit. But he who did not listen and waved it away, saying, 'I will not become saddened by this discourse,' Since to him it was like wind, consider it wind, Do not distress your heart over this futile talk. How often does a single word exist That would be pleasing to all of humanity? If reverence was according to everyone's temperament, How would the Quranic text be treated like an ancient lie? O Lord, keep these counsels hidden from the unworthy, Just as You conceal the Simurgh from the wicked. Keep away, keep far away the nuisance of the ignorant, Sever the hand of the unworthy from these words. The soul that is even for a moment close to ignorance— If you want the truth, it is a long, lingering agony. Cease from counsel and speak the praise of him Through whom the true religion gains strength: The household of greatness and kingship, Whose kingdom extends from the moon to the fish. King Bahramshah, the son of Mas'ud, Whose justice would make Mahmud proud.
