Section 70 - On Repentance

Original content

English translation

O Creator of the world, Adorner of the soul, And O Guide of the intellect to truthfulness! In the heaven of the cosmos, all are raw; In Your heaven, they are drinkers of hell. At Your door, what should I do with the beautiful and the ugly? Since You exist, what should I do with heaven? For in the mirror of deceit, who can show The purpose of the words of the All-Knowing and All-Powerful? When the heart's blood pierces the liver, What difference is hell or the cook's hot coal? Hell, out of fear of Him, becomes heaven; Soil without a body becomes like a brick. Lovers weep in laughter because of You; Gnostics laugh in weeping because of You. In Your hell are those at peace as if in paradise; Without You, the common people are content with the wide-eyed houris. If You send me to hell from Your door, I will go, not on my feet, but on my head. And he who opposes Your command Envelopes his own heart in heedlessness. Everyone's time, work, and livelihood are from You; The friend becomes a snake, and the snake a friend because of You. Neither am I sated of You by 'Do not feel secure,' Nor do I become emboldened by 'Do not despair.' If You couple poison with my soul, I will not speak of it as something more bitter than sugar. Secure from Your design is only he Who is a base and worthless person. Your security and Your planning are both the same; The wise person is terrified of Your planning. One must not feel secure from Your planning; Obedience and disobedience hold no profit. Secure is only that person who is unaware Of Your planning while committing sin.
